Brewster House of Flanders

I grew up in a home right across the street from this building, In fact, my parents still live there. In the early 80’s this was owned by the MacPhee’s. A very nice older couple originally from Canada.

I spent quite a bit of time over there, and found the place very fascinating. There has been quite a few additions to the building over the years, but records indicate that the original structure dates back to the 1700’s.
History also shows that it was a farm, a boarding house, a hunting club, a summer resort, and a number of other uses over time. Quite a few famous names are attached to the history of this building as well. I know the Roosevelts had spent time there, and I recall as a kid, seeing a picture hanging on the kitchen wall, of Al Capone – standing on the porch of this building.

location mapI feel that historically, it would be a real loss for the community to have this building
removed. It has obviously seen better days, but at 250 years old, she is still standing, and that has to count for something.
I’d love to see the plans for this project come to fruition. I believe the history of our small hamlet deserves to see this treasure once again returned to its glory.
